The vehicle definitely feels a lot more powerful and the engine, compared to my CRV, is more noticeable when idling, however, it accelerates very briskly and with far more authority than my CRV.
The controls, with the exception of the shifter, are easy to understand and operate. I generally like the foot-operated parking brakes, however, it seems old-fashioned compared to the electric parking brake on my CRV and, especially combined with the wonky shifter buttons, seems out of place.
I like the comfort and space of the car and some of the details like the retracting window shades on the rear doors. I also like the push-button folding rear seats and the hidden cargo area under the floor.
Although I'm not a fan of the MPG, it is a large vehicle and has 280hp so the rated fuel economy seems reasonable.
Overall, I seriously considered the purchase and the dealer worked with me to get a very good price. The vehicle was stickered at $39,500, however, without negotiation, the price was cut to $34,500.
Some factors that have kept me from purchasing: the mpg, the weird mix of wonky shifter and old-fashioned parking brake, I love my CRV. I also noticed that the tires that come stock on the EX-L have a low treadwear rating (400UTG). Why does Honda persist in putting on low-quality tires on their vehicles? Also, I think the Pilot is a better-looking vehicle that is better proportioned. By cutting several inches from the Pilot, Honda have managed to make the Passport look just like an Explorer or Subaru Forester; the Pilot is confidently handsome. The Passport, to me, looks like just another bloated SUV.
